Your Heart’s Desire

There is nothing better than when you set out to reach a goal and you accomplish it. We are faced with choices everyday. When it comes to our careers a lot of us settle for a job because we are comfortable in the position. We know that it is just a job and it pays the bills.  Some of us, like myself, are not content with just having a job that pays bills. Please know that there is a big difference between a job and a career. I work full time as a legal assistant and I love what I do because I am comfortable  in my position and I know how to get the job done. However, my hearts passion is to work in the fashion, music or entertainment industry. I just recently obtained my Bachelors Degree and I am currently in school for my MBA. Being equipped with a degree now allows me to demand a higher salary in my current field but sometimes it is not all about the money. I would rather work in a job that I love in addition to making “the money”. If I have to take a SMALL paycut just to get my foot in the door then I will do just that. I told myself that I would never settle for anything less than what I deserve and I know that I deserve to work in my field of interest and make good $ at the same time. My heart’s desires are not just desire’s but tasks that I have set to accomplish and will work my patutti off to get them accomplished. I know with the current state of the economy that a lot of us are happy just to have a job if we enjoy it or not. However, if you are able to step out on faith and apply for those jobs that interest you instead of being unhappy then you might be surprised what opportunities will fall in your lap.

So I challenge everyone to really look at your life and take a moment to write down where you plan to be in 2 years, 5 years and 10 years. Afterwards, map out the things that you will do to reach those goals and stick to them. You only live once so you might as well live and enjoy life all around.

Myspace Annoyed!

myspace_facebook

Let me just say that I enjoy receiving compliments. I mean come on….who doesn’t. I have recently cut back on my time on Myspace because of the crazy friend request and comments that I have been receiving. I no longer accept any friend request to my page because I figure if I want you all up in my space then I should be inviting you in. I recently x’d a few people from my page that I felt were there just to be nosy or who just showed a complete lack of respect. Not to sound uppity but I really think that anyone on my page should be considered privileged in that I allow you to see a personal side of me that I don’t have to show. I could put a whole bunch of BS on my page but my page truly reflects who I am…take it or leave it. Now what annoys the hell out of me is that people will see me clearly state that I am in a relationship and still try to come on to me and hook up with me. There is nothing that I hate more than men who try to sell themselves to me like they are a product that I should buy! I don’t need to know what you want in a woman and why you are a good man. For that reason I tend to spend more time on Facebook where I only have “friends” that truly know me. I am able to put up more personal pics of me and my family on Facebook than I would on Myspace. Myspace has become so elementary…when your daughter and her friends start to make Myspace pages then you know it’s no longer for you anymore.

Take A Breather!

blessed

Stress is something that we experience more than once in our lifetime. We stress about money, our jobs, relationships, school and drastic life changes. Stress causes us to overeat, not eat, get unbearing migraines, attack our friends and family and just flat out do crazy things. Stress is caused by the body’s instinct to defend itself. Everybody has their own way of dealing with stressful situations. What I try to do is tackle these situations before they become stressful. Sometimes we tend to worry about things that we can’t change. For example, Cleveland’s weather in the winter causes a lot of stress on those who actually have to drive to work in bad conditions. It can become nerve wrecking!! I would stress about driving to work when the roads are bad and dread even getting in my car because of a fear of getting into an accident. Now I realize that the snow is going to be there and I GOTTA go to work so I just get into my car, say a quick prayer and go. I have been very fortunate to never have gotten into an accident and because I don’t allow myself to stress over things that I can’t change I am able to relax and take things for what they are. When faced with stressful situations you can also find comfort in talking to friends and family about whatever is on your mind. A few ways to deal with stress include: a) viewing changes in a positive way; b) setting realistic goals for yourself; c) getting proper rest and eating the right foods; d) resolve conflicts as soon as you can; e) meditate; and d) turn to God for direction. Never let a situation get you to the point where you are depressed and at the verge of causing harm to you or someone else. If you really think about your situation, whatever it may be, just know that there was someone else who went through the same thing and made it through. God will never put too much on you that you can’t handle. I take each situation as a test and a challenge. Once I make it through I have become stronger and have that confidence in myself that should the incident happen again that I will make it through.

Reminiscing…Bring It Back!

I am always reminiscing on fun times I had back in the day. I grew up in a crime stricken area of Cleveland but thinking back on my childhood I can only remember good times. It makes me miss those days when my father would give me $5 and I thought I won the lottery. My sisters and I would walk 4 blocks to a corner store called “Jones” and load up on junk food. Here are some of my all time favorites from back then….some of which I still eat today:

1. Cherry Chans

New Poem: WHY?

My friends and I have been going through a lot just this week and I decided to put this poem together for that matter…we just wanna say WHY? As I mentioned before…I write poems everyday and I can write a poem on the fly without hesitation. It took me less than two minutes to write this one. Please do not steal!!!

WHY?
Why do you care what I say?
Why do you care about what I do everyday?
Why do you stay on top of my updates?
Why is it that you are always calling me fake?
Why is my life so important to you?
Why do you constantly strike back when I am not talking to you?
Why is it that you hate that I am happy?
Why is it that I’m still on top and you’re not….see!!!
Why do you care if I cut my hair low?
Why do you hate when I can put on a wig and just go?
Why do you care if I can afford the finer things?
Why is my life becoming your priority?
Why does it hurt you to see me shine?
Why am I ahead while you are always behind?
Why do I constantly feel like I am being watched?
Why do I know that it’s because I got ish on lock?
Why am I writing this poem for you?
Why do I care, I really don’t but you do!

Beware of THE DECEPTORS!

hypno

There are men and women who play off their external attractiveness to get whatever they want, however, they are the total opposite inside. I call these people………….THE DECEPTORS (dun, dun, dun, dunnnnnnnnn). These individuals are very attractive, they know the right things to say to woo you and can deliver in bed…..they SEEM like the perfect person. These men and woman can ask you for anything and you go through any extent to deliver. They are so intriguing that when you look into their eyes you are instantly mesmerized and under their spell. The crazy thing is that some people allow these individuals to treat them any kind of way because they are too sprung on what the Deceptors have in their pants and how beautiful they are on THE OUTSIDE. These are the men and woman that you see at the club/bar that every person flocks to. When they walk in the room all heads turn even if the eyes that are staring are envious. In the beginning of your relationship with the Deceptor you are amazed at how quickly you fall in love and how you feel you must do anything to keep this person happy. As a result you overlook the negative things that they do and try to justify their no-so-great behavior towards you by blaming yourself for the bad things they do. You front like you have a “prize” in public but behind closed doors the Deceptors “beast” comes out and attacks.

The Deceptors pretty much know that they have so much of a hold on you that they could chop off your right arm and you wouldn’t leave. The Deceptors prey on the WEAK and before you know it you have been cheated on, lied to, hoodwinked and they are on to the next sucker!!! Please be cautious of these individuals especially if you are not a woman/man that is strong and into your own. There are men/women out there that have the complete package so don’t settle for the ones that may be cute in the face, a beast in the sheets but treat you like shit. Love yourself enough not to settle for anything…always see yourself as the prize and never anything less!

Poem: A New Day

I love to write poetry and I have a book of poetry that I hope to one day get published. Today I share my poem entitled “A New Day” with you. Yes the poem is copyrighted so don’t steal!!!

Lessons to be learned
Pain to be felt
Struggles to encounter
Cards to be dealt
Love unconditionally
Heartaches come and go
Reality kicks in
Confidence seems to grow
Tears fall from eyes
Prayers sing from lips
Relief takes over
An armor is equipped
Silence is experienced
Calming whispers in the air
Twilight is coming
Left without a care
Eyes are closing
Dreams await in mind
Today is an illusion
Wake up one more time
Sun shines through windows
Melodies birds sing
Awake to a new day
Filled with new hopes and big dreams

10 Dances Never to Do in Public

I am sure all of you have seen that one person at the club that just can’t let go of the old back in the day dances. Here is my list of 10 dances that should only be done in the comfort of your own home…with no one around to see you!!!

1. The Cabbage Patch (this was my dance back in the day…this was the dance you couldn’t eff up because you looked like a complete idiot no matter how you did it)

2. The Earthworm (okay no one wants to see you gyrating across the floor…be careful or you might get stepped on)

3. The Vogue (this dance was made popular by Madonna back in the 80’s…of course you can see this dance still being done by certain men that are a little more sensitive then others…LOL!)

vogue

4. The Running Man (you know you did it…admit it…hey I still bust this one out on occassion…wait did I just say that!)

5. Kid N Play (I loved this dance…especially when you lock legs and turn around backwards and do it….aww those were the days. There is just no room for you to do this on the dance floor anymore without possibly kickin the ish out of somebody)

6. The Roger Rabbit (why was this dance called the Roger Rabbit anyway…too many people on the dance floor holding drinks to be doing this one…dancing going backwards can get your a** beat these days)

7. The Robot (stop……please stop….I have nothing else to say!)

robot-crouch-dance

8. The Butterfly (I love MI some JAMAICAN dancing but the Butterfly needs to be put to rest. I did notice that the Butterfly has been recycled into the “Stanky Leg”..you won’t catch me doing either one on the dance floor. Only my man will see my Butterfly and my Stanky Leg)

9. The Wop (I used to KILL it on the dance floor with the Wop..I’m am guilty of still breaking this one out at the club…so sue me!!)

10. Harlem Shake (please, please, please no Harlem Shaking on the floor….looks more like a seizure…don’t play like that!!)

Tattoo…Finally!

Okay as many of you know I have been planning to get another tat for over a month now and this weekend I will finally put my fears aside and get my over the shoulder tat that I want so badly. I’m not one to have 100 tats because like Sheneneh would say..”I’m a lady”..LOL! Well anyway I have made the decision to get something similar to the tats you see below. Not sure what I will end up with but it will most definitely be my last!!

Shine On!

One thing that I have learned in my life is to press on and keep shining no matter what situations, good or bad, come into my life. Over the past year I have been through heartbreaks, having my name slandered, feeling alone and crying myself to sleep. However, I have also been in situations where I felt so much love, laughed till I cried, accomplished great tasks, obtained new luxuries and found true friendship. Overall my year couldn’t have been better…..yes I said I’ve had an AWESOME year. I have come to realize and truly believe that everything happens for a reason. No matter what challenges I have faced I have always pulled through and came out on top. Despite the many people who tried to bring me down I have only become a stronger and more focused woman.

Opportunities have presented themselves to me that only assures that I am headed in the right direction towards reaching all of the goals that I have set for myself. My journey is leading me to a new environment where I know that I will only continue to experience new things and meet new people. I am stoked about taking in all that my new surroundings will encompass. Everything that I do from blog writing to joining different social networks is done for a reason and is far from anything than just pleasure. True business-minded individuals know that you have to crawl before you walk and they understand the benefits of even things as small as starting a blog and what it can do for you in the long run. The blessings will continue to pour in waterfalls no matter what. I will continue to stand strong and lean not into my own understanding but to the direction of where God wants me to go. I will continue to behave as a classy and professional woman does and grind at 100.  A “hater” is just a small comma in my book of life. I pause just for a second to laugh at you then I move right along. God is great, life is amazing and I am ready for that next chapter of my life to begin.

So to everyone who is going through similar situations I encourage you to keep your head up and never lose sight of your goals. You are the driver in your life so keep your hands on that steering wheel and take control. When you hit a speed bump it might throw you off track just for a second but once you regain that control then you will be prepared for the next speed bump that might show up. Stay positive, continue to grind and shine and never let anything stand in your way.
Be Blessed…Nisha Yvette

Ryan Leslie…talking Gibberish!

I am a huge fan of Ryan Leslie and his music. One of my favorite songs off his album is “Gibberish” so today I share with you a video of R. Les in the studio acting silly and recording the son-to-be-a-hit song…LOL!!

I Heart Marc Jacobs!!

One day I hope that I will have enough pull to be invited to attend NY Fashion Week. Until then I will just read about and look at pictures from the shows via the web. There was one designer who stuck out to me this year and that would be Marc Jacobs. I am really feeling his designs this year as they display a fun yet eclectic look (a combination that I so love). I love the color choices for the most part and his signature MJ handbags are to die for. Check out pics from the show below.

Running In Heels

For all you ”The City” fans….a new reality show is on it’s way to the Style network. As I mentioned in my old blog, my dream job would be to work for a top fashion magazine or record label as a publicist or marketing director so until I get my dream job I have been living vicariously through Whitney on MTV’s “The City” as she works at DVF.  Well I just got whim of a new series called “Running In Heels” that will be premiering on March 1st at 8pm on Style Network. The show takes a look behind the scenes at what goes down at the offices of Marie Claire magazine (my fav magazine). It will be exciting to actually get an inside peek on what the staff at this popular fashion magazine go through on a daily basis.

editorincheif

“Running in Heels” will uncover what it means to be a working woman in the cut-throat, exhilarating world of a top fashion and beauty magazine. It will dispel the misconception that it is all about glitz and glamour and instead demonstrate that success comes with hard work, long hours and personal sacrifice.

I must say that I love the glamour of the job but more than that I would love to work my patutti off and get paid for doing something that I have a passion for.

BeBe for MeMe

Venturing in the mall the other day I made a stop in Bebe…not intending to purchase anything but to just look around. Come to find out they were having a huge sale on their winter clothes but of course there was nothing on the sale rack that I could fit so I was going to mosey on my way until I saw this cute little t-shirt with a blinged out poodle on it. It just made me say “awwwwww” so I knew I had to get it. I ended up purchasing two shirts that day. I was a little shy at first to buy the one shoulder top but it was just too cute. What do you think of the two….do you think I made some cute choices?
