Motivating Quotes : Be Yourself

I came across a few quotes today regarding “being yourself”. I hope you all read these and take them to heart.

He who trims himself to suit everyone will soon whittle himself away. ~Raymond Hull

God has given you one face, and you make yourself another. ~William Shakespeare

Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else. ~Judy Garland

We are so accustomed to disguise ourselves to others that in the end we become disguised to ourselves. ~François Duc de La Rochefoucauld

Almost every man wastes part of his life in attempts to display qualities which he does not possess, and to gain applause which he cannot keep. ~Samuel Johnson, The Rambler, 1750

Let the world know you as you are, not as you think you should be, because sooner or later, if you are posing, you will forget the pose, and then where are you? ~Fanny Brice

If God had wanted me otherwise, He would have created me otherwise. ~Johann von Goethe

Situation: The Cheating Boyfriend/Girlfriend

I have decided to start a new series of post called “Situations” where I would write up a situation and you, my readers, will respond to as to how you would handle each situation. Some may be made up and some may be factual. Nonetheless, I am anxious to read how you all will respond to each one.

Situation:
Lately you have been suspecting your boyfriend/girlfriend of cheating. He/she has been hiding the cell phone, going out more than usual and just acting a little strange overall. Maybe he could just be stressing over something or he could really be cheating on you. So one day you decide to get in your car and follow him/her just to clear your conscious. He tells you that he going to get something to eat so that is you opportunity to make your move. You drive behind him/her and he/she pulls up into the local McDonalds. He/she gets out the car and walks over to another car already parked in the lot and a female/male exits the vehicle and proceeds to enter the restaurant with your man/woman. What do you do?

a. you wait in the car to see how long he/she will be in the restaurant then plan your next move

b. you grab your Vaseline and tennis shoes and prepare to make a scene in the restaurant at all cost

c. you realize that he probably wouldn’t take a chick to McDonalds that he was trying to impress and you quickly pull off and head back home

d. you think maybe the girl is a friend of his that called him over to the car and they just walked in together so you drive away

e. (fill in your own answer here!)

Diary Post: Taking It Day By Day

Looking back over this past year, I can truly say that I have grown and matured so much as a woman both personally and professionally. Just a few years ago I was too shy to talk to anyone and I kept to myself and now you couldn’t pay me to shut up. I realize that I have definitely come a long way and I am truly blessed. People are quick to criticize me on the decisions that I made in my life concerning my relationship, money, school and more (as if they have the puuuurrrfect life). Yet they tend to follow in my footsteps in doing and wanting the same things. I always keep it moving and not let anyone or anything hinder my growth and stop my progression. I have met some people that were just plain ignorant and disrespectful but yet I continue to do me and float on.

As my time in Cleveland is coming to an end I am so looking forward to starting an exciting new chapter in my life. I have become a little tougher at heart and things that I would have tolerated last year I refuse to deal with from now on. Individuals that I dealt with in the past who have only been negative towards me, directly or indirectly, I have no more time for and will not waste any energy on. I am truly blessed and I do consider myself to be one in a million. Anybody will be quick to vouch for me in saying that I am the coolest chick you could ever meet so when there are people that hate me or talk down on me they are really miserable little creatures who want what I have…be it my lifestyle, my man, my indulgences and even my intelligence. Nisha will always be @ 100 and keep it moving right along….

FYI – I have decided to delete my current myspace page…I have completely stopped checking it because of the fakeness of “friends” and whatnot. I will continue use of my Facebook page which I prefer using over Myspace. My old myspace page will be deleted after I finish requesting the “important” people that I had on it to my newly created page (out with the old and in with the new). My new page will only be for true friends and family and the cool new people that I met on Twitter and FB (all others will be rejected). If you would like to connect with me on FB or Twitter click under the links to the right under “Where I Be”.

Preconceived Notions…

What is a preconceived notion? According to Websters Dictionary, a preconceived notion is an opinion formed beforehand without adequate evidence.

I have learned during my lifetime that people are quick to judge others before they really get to know them. For example, you see someone driving a bad ass car and they get out dress to the T, nice clothes, clean shoes and smelling delightful and you think that he has it all. Little do you know the car is his father’s, his clothes are borrowed and he lives with his parents. One of the best attorneys in Cleveland dresses in old suits, hair is un-groomed and he smells of moth balls yet he has money out the ass and is sweet as pie…not saying that he doesn’t need to put a little more into his grooming but if you saw him you might mistake him from a bum on the street till you find out who he really is.

Merry Browne said it best….

“Preconceived notions are locks on the door to
wisdom”.

Can we really meet someone without being prejudice against them? We can become so caught up in what we feel a person should be or act like that we limit ourselves from connecting with certain people around us who might prove to be something other than what we conceived. You can limit yourself from making new friends and learning more about yourself in the process. You become “trapped in your own shell and a victim to your own thinking”. Learn to step out of your false reality and get to know people before you limit your growth and you end up a social wreck.

The Wrap Dress

Wrap dresses are another necessity for your summer wardrobe. In addition to the Maxi dress being a hot item this summer, the wrap dress is also a must-have! With so many ways to work the wrap dress, here are a few style tips from DVF when rocking the wrap dress:

1. Tie your wrap in the back for a polished look

2. Layer with a long cardigan or vest

3. Shorten the dress to add some leg

4. Add a cropped leather jacket for instant attitude

5. Wear a lace cami underneath for added attitude

6. Pair a headscarf & hoop earrings for a 70’s vibe

7. Layer over leggings or footless tights

8. Add chunky jewelry…bangles, beads & cocktails rings are the perfect way to accessorize the wrap

9. Try a lace-up wedge for the ultimate rock goddess look

10. Mix up prints! It’s important to treat the wrap as a basic even though it is a print

Ladies First!

Today I give an ode to all the female singers, rappers, groups that are true Diva-Stars who definitely made their marks in the male-dominated music industry!!

1. Queen Latifah. Gotta give it up to the Queen of Hip Hop!!! Growing up I had Queen La’s album on repeat. She held it down on “Latifah’s Had It Up To Here” by my ultimate favorites were “Inside Out” and “The Pros”.

2. Sade. Who doesn’t love Sade!! Sade’s smooth sounds have set the mood plenty of nights with my man and also gave me a sense of relaxation when I needed to de-stress.

3. Mary J. Blige. Mary just speaks to the real “hood” chick. Real stories with real woman problems…what more could you ask for.

4. Vanity and Mary Jane Girls. I put these two together simply because I love the rawness of both groups but in totally different ways. Vanity was more sexy raw while the Mary Jane Girls made you want to be a woman in control.

5. Salt N Pepa. My all time favorite female rap duo!!! I work out to Push It errday!!! LOL!

6. EnVogue. The ultimate female group!! The could go from a heartfelt song like “Part of Me” to a sexy seductive song like “Waitin On You” !

7. Meshell Ndegecello. I know you are probably wondering why she is on this list but this chick is BAD!!! Her guitar skills are not to be played with. I was hip to MN since her hit “Dreadlocks”.

8. Jill Scott. She just came out and brought something so poetic to the music scene. “Long Walk Home” definitely made me realize that she was here to stay and stake her throne as the “neo-soul queen”.

9. Xscape. Whenever there was a talent show, when I was growing up, my friends and I would always sing an Xscape song…be it “Misunderstanding” or “Tonight” we thought we were the ish!!

10. Aaliyah. Couldn’t leave my girl Aaliyah off the list!! What I liked so much about Aaliyah is the fact that she could dance her ass off. She would dance so smooth and even in baggy jeans in a tank she still brought her ladylike qualities out. Her style is now mimic through the likes of Ciara and Cassie.

Just Me: Plain and Simple

I love who I am and I change for no one. I cannot be anything other than what God has made me to be. I am sweetheart for the most part, but I can be a bitch. I love staying busy although I tire very fast. I love to tell jokes so I keep everybody cracking up at get togethers. I am shy sometimes yet very outspoken. I have the tendency to put others needs before mines. I love to give and help the less fortunate whenever I have the chance. I simply adore children. Everything that I do is to benefit my children. I love to watch horror flicks at night, alone and in complete darkness to get the full effect. I don’t consider myself to be a day or nite person….more like a shifter! I would rather eat a plate of side dishes than a plate of meats. I cry more at weddings then I would at a funeral. I love spicy foods..the hotter and spicier the better. I despise phony people and liars. I pray every single day. I can’t stand a deadbeat parent. I love old school hip hop and old school r&b…the love of my life. I am very intelligent and headstrong which seems to intimidate some people. I prefer Tupac over Biggie. I hate cigarettes and being around anyone who smokes ANYTHING…how disgusting and gross!!!! When I want something I will stop at nothing to get it. I love life and never take it for granted. I love to travel. I don’t have to be glammed up all the time…you will see me in sweats with a scarf on my head. I could never own a cat or dog…it’s like having another child. I know that true love is waiting for me so I don’t try to pursue it. I view everybody as equal no matter what age, status or race. I believe in God and knows that he is the reason why I am so blessed today. Well that is Just Me: Plain and Simple!! To know me is to love me…point, blank, period!!!

Diary Post: *Sigh*

Okay I have to be one of the busiest women in Cleveland…that is all I gotta say about that!! I really need a day or two to recuperate from all the work (personal and professional) that I have been doing. All work and no play is definitely making me a dull chick. I am on a countdown and weeks are going by too fast for me. As I am packing and going through my belongings I realize that I have wayyyyyy more winter and fall clothes than spring and summer. Okay my wardrobe upgrade will offically begin once I move. I am penny pinching right now because I’m moving to another state and trust me it is not cheap. I gotta pay for movers, have gas money to get down there, a security deposit and first months rent for my new place, and extra emergency funds. It’s a good thing that I already have the security of a job before I even get there. That really takes a lot of stress off my shoulders that most people have when they move out of state. I am just grateful that I have the support of my family and friends. They also keep me on track about what I have to do to make this move less stressful. All I can say is *sigh* can’t wait for it to be all over!!!

Diary Post: Keep Them Guessing!

I love that I am able to be so diverse in my skills that I have many options of what I want to do and where I want to go in life. I have been fortunate to actually meet people who share the same passions as I do where we are able to work together in soaring to high levels. No one ever knows exactly what I am up to and I like to keep it that way. I can go on and on about the projects that I am working on and the offers that have been thrown my way but I choose not to. I have learned my lesson on how some will take what you say out of context and run with it, therefore, I just keep them guessing. You may think you know…but you have no idea!!! ;)

So to all of my readers…work hard, do you and keep them guessing!!

Take A Vacation

Every once in a while it is good to get away. Some of us stay so busy with our jobs, families, schools and more that we never take time for ourselves. It’s always a good thing to step away from the craziness and release some tension. There are many hotels that offer spa packages where you can get luxury treatment during your stay at their hotel. A great hotel to check out would be the Mandarin Oriental Hotel which is known to be one of THEE best when it comes to spa treatments. Get a few of your girlfriends together for a weekend trip and prepare to be pampered. They offer many spa packages to suit your needs. You can access the Mandarin Oriental Hotel website by clicking HERE. Nothing like a a full day of relaxation complete with a therapeutic massage. Head to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Miami and after your spa treatment you can head over to the beach and sip Mimosa’s with the girls!!!

Diary Post: Sleepless in Cleveland

I am officially dog tired!!! I have so much that I need to do in a short period of time and it can stress a chick out. Everything was really all over the place just as in the picture above. I needed to get some order in my life so I decided to make a list of things to get done and started prioritizing my list from most to least important. I am definitely going out this weekend so I can drink away my stress….lol!! Thinking about hitting up Capers in Beachwood…can’t see myself going anywhere downtown with the kiddies. Looking forward to a month from now when things are less crazy and I will finally be settled down. Awwwwwww……can’t effin wait!!!!

Can We Avoid Being Judgmental?

Judging people seems to come second nature to us. We are quick to pre-judge someone based on their appearance rather than getting to know the person. We have our own thoughts of what we deem attractive and unattractive. Some of us look down on others who maybe make less money or However, many of us get so caught up in appearances that we forget where true beauty lies. Who are we to judge anyone when we all have our flaws. Learn to accept people for who they are and not what you think they should be. . Remember that nobody is perfect and that includes you!!!

We need to make judgments, of course – to observe what works and what doesn’t, but not to be judgmental. Being judgmental is a form of madness that screams powerlessness and ruthlessness. When we can make good judgments and update them and not stay rigid, we come from goodwill and promote goodwill back to us. – Patricia Sun

Summer Wardrobe Must-Have’s

Although we are just into spring I wanted to give you some hot choices to spruce up your summer wardrobe. I am expecting a toasty summer in HOTlanta so I really worked my butt off in losing weight and toning up for the spring/summer season so I can look fab at work and when I am out hanging with my EE chicas!!!

1. The Maxi Dress – I previously blogged about how I love these dresses for the warm seasons. Already filling up my closet with them!!! Love the free flow of the dresses and how they come down to my ankles covering my big ass knees…LOL!!! Definitely a must-have this year.

2. The Harem Pants – Okay so they look like the Hammer pants reinvented but you gotta love them. I hear so many women saying how ugly they are but don’t knock them till you try them. I actually tried on a pair with my stilettos and I thought I looked really good. Only those daring enough to work them can pull of a complete and fashionable look. Although I didn’t purchase the ones that I tired on, they are definitely on my “must-get” list.

3. Tory Burch – yes Tory B. has definitely got summer stylin on lock. From the women apparel to the shoes, handbags and accessories, Tory has really made dressing fashionably for the spring easy!!! Check out her spring fashions by clicking HERE.

4. Single shouldered shirts/dresses – Now that I got my shoulder tat I am anxious to show it off by sporting a sexy single shoulder shirt. Time to show a little skin this summer. Too old to be walking around with my stomach showing so this is a little sexiness for the mature females.

5. No more boring shoes – Step up your game with shoes that have more detail to them. I’m talking about beads, straps, jewels and etc……oh it’s definitely the HIGHER the heel the better!!! LOL!!!

I am only posting 5 of my must-have’s although I have many more. What are your spring/summer must have’s this year?
